sunday! sunday!

yesterday i attended suchin's wedding with mingyao and it was very nice to meet up with some of the classmates again - siti, whom i haven't met since jc days and who is mother to one, and i realised lizhen was working as a tv producer, and not, as i always assumed, a teacher. we left to go to siew jie's house blessing by pastor wendy watson and then had dinner together in the west, after which we dropped ee jie at ang mo kio and then we decided to patronise blooie's - my first time - since dog and bone pub at the corner closed down (new star indian barber from across the road shifted there, with the exact same sign - 'air-conditioned - hilarious') we went to blooie's which was really nice and in such a secretive location - hidden from the main common stretch of siglap - quiet enough and with really good cajun fries - i was thinking about the fries again last night, mingyao whispered to me this morning at church - and a pint each. i couldn't finish my beer mainly because it was just after dinner and we attacked all the fries first. we imagined how nice it would to spend an impromptu weekend evening there and walk home after. the exterior setting reminded me a little of 'bra bra' - something like that - in bukit timah because of all the woody furniture and the laid back atmosphere. we drove by a secret place to peep.

and then today we went crazy because there was this hokkaido fair in isetan supermarket at shaw - cooked by real japs! - seems to make it a bigger deal and so we decided lunch was going to be an assortment of everything that whet our appetite - yakisoba/omu rice thingy/japanese fried curry buns/ that octopus ball thing - cooked by imported japanese people - and pumpkin and cream scallop fried ____ - suddenly i can't remember the name of that thing. we went up to the free area with a blank cinema screen playing out sounds and ate our lunch there. and then we hunted around for shoes for siew's wedding next week. and i ended up with a 'potential' birthday present. at lunch we couldn't finish our curry buns so we drove to seletar air base where the reservoir was, near my house, and ate our snacks there with the cool after-rain weather and the serene calm of the reservoir - mingyao told me the other time he grew up with reservoirs being foreign to him, him being on the eastside. me on the other hand, grew up with reservoirs being a sunday before dinner walk with parents - to bike or try out our new blades, or just to hang out with parents - lower pierce/ upper pierce/ seletar...all of them so close to home. those people who are going to stay at the new 'meadows at pierce' condo that is going to replace greenmeadows are going to have such a good time growing up.

plus i got the new edition of monocle - brilliant brilliant morning train ride-read.
