we watched Irreversible today and both agreed that style-wise, it was pretty neat plus the reversed sequencing was pretty effective, but overall content was not entirely heart/mind-wrenchingly enlightening - it definately ranks lower than 'Love me if you Dare' - the impact of violence in the latter grips me by the heart more so than the former. i dig metaphysical love more than cruel hardcore violence i suppose. then we went to look for a cab but it was near midnight so it was hard to get one and we saw bus 7 arriving so we ran all the way from cineleisure across the road and to the bus stop and we did catch it. we had prata at clementi interchange after failure to find the location of any fried hokkein mee nearby and that was pretty satisfying too.
sometimes when i'm bored, i get a kick out of looking out the meaning of words i dont' understand or learning new words. sounds crazy but i used to hog the dictionary in the vjc library and look for new words to add into my vocabulary when i was taking a break from studies. here's the few i learnt today:
apotheosis (something i always came across but never knew really what it meant) >> elevation to preeminent position; glorification or glorified example
panoptical
>> including everything in one view
trompe l'oeil
>> style of painting that gives an illusion of photographic reality ; that deceives the reader of the painting about it's reality
juggernaut
>> inexorable force that crushes everybody/ thing in it's way
liminal (space)
>> threshold of a physiological or psychological response
