BOUQUET OF ROSES IN SUNLIGHT

Say that it is a crude effect, black reds,
Pink yellows, orange whites, too much as they are
To be anything else in the sunlight of the room,

Too much as they are to be changed by metaphor,
Too actual, things that in being real
Make any imaginings of them lesser things.

And yet this effect is a consequence of the way
We feel and, therefore, is not real, except
In our sense of it, our sense of the fertilest red,

Of yellow as first color and of white,
In which the sense lies still, as a man lies,
Enormous, in a completing of his truth.

Wallace Stevens

one doesn't have to be excellent at something to like it very much. i think maybe, if you are true to the process and true in your attempt to actualise the idea into being, you will get better at it.

the thought that you have to be perfect at something right at the start is so demanding on the soul and eventually, the body. there's some tension there in trying to balance - to be a perfectionist so that you give the experience the best effort so that you don't waste any of your precious time on earth - it's not very long - and the trying to let go, and recognise your failings and the reality of being human - flaws and such. this balancing act is in itself, traumatic, edifying, beautiful, terrifying, carthatic.

so anyways today we went to muji and bumped into my brother outside. i bought things with my muji vouchers.

i bought:

muji hangers for mingyao
a cushion for my study chair
a long handle spoon
a transparent salad bowl
sounds

last week i was near the shops so i popped into books actually and i saw a new album by Stuart Murdoch from belle & sebastian on display. the owner was very nice to tell me they had another album with a special booklet inside and got someone to bring it over from their new shop - polymath & crust. i really love the shops and i always want to buy things from there. but this time i stopped myself quite successfuly as i hadn't read the two books i bought from there yet the last time i was there.

so two weeks ago i introduced my office to the shins and feist. they liked it very much so it's playing in the office with the sea and cake.
the weekend

my birthday present arrived! mingyao picked it up :) it's so good at my bedside.

today was ryan and charlotte's wedding in the morning and afternoon and zhijun's wedding in the evening. we helped out at the first wedding as ushers. it was quite fun having the luncheon at Barracks. The decor made the atmosphere quite fun and relaxed. Charlotte's ang pao box was quite genius - an ang pao box cake!

hannah's staying over for the weekend cos she has to go to the airport early tomorrow to go back to hong kong. first house guest! i bought some flowers for the weekend.

one can be bitter about alot of things - mundane or seemingly serious ones. i was reading an article in the newspaper today - a doctor was reminding readers to appreciate what we have and live each day the best we can and not to wait till we have a terminal illness to make us wake up and panic. sometimes it's so hard to do that though, when you're tired or angry. but i think that's the simplest and best advice to tackle your everday problems. don't wait till i'm jobless to appreciate my job no matter how hard it is. don't wait to appreciate the people dear to me until they're gone. overlook the small things and aim for the big generous ones. overlook the few nights of lack of sleep to meet a deadline for a greater learning experience. forgive and overlook petty momentary angst for deeper and more important relationships.

nada surf's song always love reminds me sometimes about that.

To make a mountain of your life
Is just a choice
But I never learned enough
To listen to the voice that told me
Always love Hate will get you every time
Always love Don't wait til the finish line

Slow demands come 'round
Squeeze the air and keep the rest out
It helps to write it down
Even when you then cross it out

But Always Love? Hate will get you every time
Always Love Even when you wanna fight

Self-directed lives
I want to know what it?d be like to
Aim so high above
Any card that you've been dealt, you...

Always Love Hate will get you every time
Always Love Hate will get you?

I've been held back by something
Yeah. You said to me quietly on the stairs,
I've been held back by something
Yeah. You said to me quietly on the stairs.
You said?
Hey, you good ones.
Hey, you good ones.

To make a mountain of your life
Is just a choice
But I never learned enough
To listen to the voice that told me...
Always love hate will get you every time
Always love hate will get you

i'm still tired and sian but writing it down probably helps in some way.
i love thonet. i love muji.

today while collecting something from a client i stopped by books actually and wanted to get frankie but they were out of stock. i stopped over at their new shop polymath and crust which carries non-fiction books. they're both great places and the owners are so nice they know me by name but it's funny cos the guy owner calls my name wrongly (nuance-wise) and his girlfriend calls it correctly.

today we went to sab's wedding at crowne prince hotel at the airport - my first wedding there and at least two more that i know of in nov and jan next year. she left all these nice props around for her midsummer's night theme and it was so nice to meet the other tsd folks. hi liyann! hi denise!

that day minggyao cooked cod fish and roasted chicken which was so good cos we marinated it overnight and he sprinkled rosemary before popping it into the oven.

husband boiling lotus soup for tomorrow's dinner.

Thursday, July 02, 2009

today i is/was sick. since yesterday i had a lumpy throat and fever. today i stayed home but there's major tender deadline tomorrow so i'm still on the computer cadding. i hate deadlines. not very matured but i do. technical things don't excite me very much. the love and hate is always there. the day/week/year is passing by too fast.

mingyao took half day and boiled soup for dinner.(almonds, lotus root, red dates, the red little something herb i forgot the name, dried scallops, dried octopus) he brought home fish soup from amoy market for lunch.

picture from internet somewhere.
