hong kong part three

so on friday we decided to go to this dragon centre place we saw on the map because it was circled 'big mall' or something like that but when we got there it was such a disappointment - like a far east cum chinatown shopping mall kinda depressing sell cheap teen clothes kinda place so we left in a hurry and took the mtr to causeway bay where we spent some hours walking about the street side and had lunch at maxim's fast food place on the second level of some building. but oh we discovered an area called fashion walk which was so delightful because the ground floor is filled with niche brand names like Y3 and marc by marc jacobs with beautiful billboards and upstairs it's regular housing which looked a tad yuppy like, eg. some units replaced the grilles with glass balustrades and the look of that with the remainding grilles was cool; so it'd be cool to come back to this area again if we are in hong kong again.

we went into the 7-11 to get a drink and decided to buy the new kinder brenneur to try. and then began the long walk along hennessy road down towards soho. midpoint we decided it was too far and there was nothing much to see along the way - mish mash of odd shops like pawn shops and this fashion type clothes etc. so we went into the mtr at wan chai and came up at, i dont remember where and decided that area felt abit like new york with all the big brand names and the many caucasians around and we walked up towards soho along peel street which i gathered is towards the top of the peak as well. so soho is kinda slopey and there are cool shops everywhere, cafes and stuff, felt a bit like soho in london - and we had liang teh at an old chinese shop with retro green and white tiles and took some photographs. we decided to head to lan kwai fong to take a look but walked the wrong way and ended up at the old ymca, i think, an old creepy redbrick building. later we watched a hong kong dramady on tv in the hotel room and some fighting scenes were filmed along that slope with the building as a backdrop. so that's cool. it's like going to alcatraz in san fran and coming back to watch escape from the rock on cable the next day at the service apartment in october.

and so we walked back down hollywood road to lan kwai fong and we were a little disappointed with lan kwai fong because it's such a gwai lo place with restaurant types you can find back home. so we decided to skip that and went to sogo in kowloon to buy lao po bing and we saw at the sea side they were having some laser lights display beaming from hong kong island side and vice versa so that was a nice surprise. after which we had dinner at this hang heung restaurant nearby which was just alright and decided we were beat and decided to head home via train instead of walking. so indeed we went back to the hotel and no we didn't use the gym at all because we walked so much and we had a packet of mongkok flavoured chips which mingyao bought at the supermarket which tasted like ordinary calbee chips so we couldn't figure out where the mongkok flavour was. and yes we were glued to the tube again watching discovery channel that was talking about the nobu chain of restaurants and i forgot what else we watched.

so hence the next morning we had breakfast again the hotel and got to the airport via the k1 free airport shuttle and the train and we had lunch at fairwood which is like, another chinese fast food chain and yes we had char siew and roast duck mix noodles again and we figured out they like to make their noodles and soup super duper salty.

postscribe: agnes b is everywhere. we walked past chungking mansion and i recalled lin ching sia chasing the indians down the alleyways in chungking express. the bobbies in their blue uniforms reminded me of tony leung's character. i would say after going to so many chinatowns - vancouver/toronto/new york/san fran/london, that some guy from hong kong would feel right at home in those places - the ugly haze is a spoiler. if it were fog that'd be more romantic but no. we skipped the theme parks - i think we've had enough of them in australia and besides the excuse for a holiday besides experiencing places i've read about/seen in films/heard in music is very much to spend handholding time with a lovely boy and doing things together like checking out music in hmv and being consumer junkies together/ pushing airport trolleys together/admiring leather bags from dunhill together/hanging on to handrails in the trains together/figuring out mtr maps together/deciding what to eat together/glued to the tube together/taking the lifts together/basking in the small street lights together/nibbling on egg tart crusts together/going through the mtr turnstiles together/gazing at the ice clean machine thingy at the ice rink going round and round the rink in a hypnotized gaze together/watching friends rerun on board the trip back together/etc. etc. etc. the word is, together everything forever. i think you can tell i love being with you.
