[a very smart]bohemian rhapsody

i like going to concerts because of all the things that go on in my head while i'm sitting in my chair; i like listening to music with stories and histories behind them. on friday i went with mingyao to his secondary school's band concert. although technically it wasn't fantastic - this comes through the experience of going to so many concerts in the past few years - and there was a sea of school children in the crowds making all kinds of school children hubbhub - i liked the selection of songs because of all the nostalgia. the alumni band played a selection of pieces from les miserables - that would be my mostest favourestest musical; what with memories of being in london and after alevels, etc. etc. - plus after the interval they played the queen symphony - never heard of it but the program booklet gave a detailed description of the background and the different adagios, etc. etc. - "The Queen Symphony is an integrated work for orchestra and choir in which tolga kashif hoped to express the original essence of the great music of (the rock band ) queen...in many respects, Queen's music is embedded in the juxtaposition of classic and rock genres; the sound may be rock-oriented but when stripped down to the bare components, the core contains as valid a thematic basis for symphonic treatment as any work in this genre..." - like woah, i like to ride my bicycle in the classical genre. modernised version of classics i've heard but this is something quite awesome for a friday night. i was just disappointed i didn't know all the songs enough top pick them up through the interpretations. i do remember, 2000, sprawled on a sofa in a tiny flat in london with ee jie in the next room cooking chicken rice and a documentary about the band was on tv and i was feeling very low listening to their story of drugs, etc. etc.

i love everything in filippa k!
