"Some people show off their beauty because they want the world to see it. Others try to hide their beauty because they want the world to see something else." -Sisterhood of The Travelling Pants

in june last year, walking late by swanston street we decided to go watch a late night movie just on holiday. next sunday special.

i love technology. today mingyao picked me up from the office and we had dinner at the foodcourt at wisma atria. after walking around town for a bit, we deicided to go do what has become one of our favourite if-got-car-got-laptop activities: we drove to macritchie reservoir's carpark, switched on his laptop, push down our seats and watch an episode of gilmore girls in the dark. this time [oh i love technology ], we plugged into the car's hifi system and got surround sound! the laptop's battery ended just as the episode finished. this was the episode where rory, lorelai, luke and logan go for a valentine's day holiday. hey hon. and, the customary stopover at casurina for supper: prata and teh ping. those prata shop indian uncles have been around since i was six!

thankyouforthegilmore!

and sleeping the whole day doing nothing means i've got to redeem myself tomorrow by doing alot of reading and working. and get up for a run.

and some quotes to get my butt off the ground:

If you want to make an easy job seem mighty hard, just keep putting off doing it. ~Olin Miller

Now I know, a refuge never grows
from a chin in the hand and a thoughtful pose
Gotta tend the earth if you want a rose.

~Indigo Girls

here's a funny one:

I was half in love with her by the time we sat down. That's the thing about girls. Every time they do something pretty, even if they're not much to look at, or even if they're sort of stupid, you fall half in love with them, and then you never know where the hell you are. ~J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye, 1945

and for you:

[W]hen you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible. ~Nora Ephron, When Harry Met Sally

early morning call translates to the arrangement of a wholeday date ["dinner too"]gosh i don't think i can be in crowded trains the claustrophobia really gets to me with the heart palpitations and sudden induced anxiety. then i meet you on the air con alley and head for chicken rice lunch and then the walk about town to do the this[s] and that[s]. till late and drinks at paulana with his guy pals and their girls and to geylang for dao hui zui supper fun. too tired to elaborate for now but i remember we spent the whole day talking, while walking, in the car resting, at the metal benches facing the roundabout under the bottom-lit trees in a shady spot, in the lift, waiting at the pub for the friends, even when there are no words i feel like we keep on talking and i love it!

additions: and then we were near our favourite char siew rice store at marina food loft but had mutual hesitations about having a predictable meal so we decided to try carl's junior for the first time to satisfy our curiosity. we had a portobello burger each and it was huge! with bigger lettuce slices and a good juicy gravy with the mushrooms, and beef and chilli fries and fries with jalapeno and drink refills. it's expensive fast food but quite satisfying for an occassional treat. we don't eat that much fastfood anyhow, i think i only ate burgers twice this year so far and i haven't had fries yet till now.

and then we went to carrfour to walk around and mingyao naturally gravitated towards the car equipment area and i amused myself by reading the broken english descriptions on some of the korean and japanese products. it's highly amusing and i burst out laughing several times to myself.

and i got my mother some apricot and macademia nougat and hazalnut praline chocolate for mother's day and we went to the car and pushed the seats down and lazed in there, talking and listening to chat b. to pass the time till when we had to meet the other fellas. we went to paulana brahaus earlier than the rest and got seats on the outside which was quieter so we could talk without straining and besides the seats are a bit bent to accommodate a nataural lazing leaned-back position. at twelve some of them decided they wanted supper so we drove down to rocher for beancurd but it was closed so we drove to geylang instead to have dao hui zui and you tiao, after winston made a slight detour through the seedier lanes in the car in front of us [we were following him] to take a peek. anyhow i had a good time hanging out with them and i really love driving around looking for supper and chats after midnight. i'm glad we have so many places in singapore to go to for food and chats anytime we want and such good food at that.

wow. we are living in exciting times!

i really must be very bold. you learn the best when you get involved. you face your fears when you do that and eradicate those adolescent shivers.

in celebration of that before i the end of may i will cut my hair and dye it a deep red to signal something of my life and my determination to face my fears.

a declaration of fascination for how wonderful you sweeten my life. on wed: 6pm sexy car ride/twenty five mintues to get to our destination/two minutes to move to the back seat and open up specially bought wanton mee from l. food centre/seven minutes to chow it all down *pause* "instant happiness" [he says]*resume* intent slurping the gravy and noodles soaked in oily goodness/five minutes to get from the car to the cinema and popcorn and coke in hand we settle down [me snug in your arms, your [you] embrace to brainless celluloid treat. you're the awesome-est.

an impromptu lunch [idea] cheap thai [relatively okay, fire in the belly] food at liang seah street corner then a quick jaunt to a new [read about] sorta boutique called Actually at seah street of which the decor of hanging hooks and hanging shelves and hanging drawers invoked some deja vu then when i [re]read the article, it mentioned colin - and no wonder, those ceiling hooks.

awesome! yesterday we had crabs and stuffed ourselves silly. some parts of the crab wasn't so fresh so we had them sent back and they graciously gave us a new plate. chillie sauce and mantous! we were too full for dessert and took a walk at the beach, talking about everything and about those good ol' vj days when they had the annual class bbq when the school would book almost the whole stretch of east coast beach for the school bbq and how i had derek walk with me all the way from the arts to s2 section and i abandoned him after meeting mingyao at his class bbq pit. ha. we talked about how it was kinda romantic actually, that school atmosphere and bgr thing going on by the beach and how the beach kinda belonged to us in a way. walking at the beach in formal wear, shirt and blouse and wedges gives a different feel - like we actually dressed up to go to the beach like in those 50s/60s black and white pictures your parents posed in. ha.

then we drove up to mt. faber in the swanky new black car (woohoo) and took a short stroll before we realised we were perspiring and headed back quickly to the car (air con and those steps to no where) and we drove to 1 rochester park to meet his friends.

i was pretty stuffed from dinner and got a bit sleepy during drinks. the place is really nicely done up and the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing. the service is pretty good too. and so i'd like to have a colonial bungalow please! felt like being at someone's house party we agreed.

today we met up with the kids and did some errand-running at marina square after that.

btw, fourteen episodes of gilmore girls last week, culminating in the episode where rory takes over when paris melts down (that was pow! pow!) and in that stylistic semi-comic fight and get-it-out-of-your-system at friday night dinner. i think i truly felt as exhausted as they did after it all. i was so upset when i heard they might can the show at season 6, but being the mad fan i am i dug at resources online and the latest news is that they will have one more season, it's just not under wb anymore and Amy Sherman-Palladino will not be involved anymore. awww man.

hey i love everything about you and i can't get enough of you! i lurrrrrrve ya!

GOODBYE TO ACADEMIA! HE'S BACK FOR ME! CAR RIDES AND GOOD, HUMBLY-DONE DUCK RICE, HUGS AND ALL! and you're a little itsy-bity-er. here's charlie brown!

photo taken from art dept

marianne faithful wildchild or milla jovovich ala the fifth element futuristic shoulder-dusted redhead. a mix would result in charlie brown's little red-haired girl.

two snail mails in a week is a treat. letter-writing expands the diary writing into sweet communion. i will reply with gusto.

is christmas coming soon or not?

and, arise from the slumber and embrace it like you did at the beginning: all-smothering charged for conquest. but settle on it quick and painless. and then, make it enjoyable , both froth and juice.

aim: to gather all that is good and drink it down like medicine. what gives to loyalty and conjures willing hearts? what gives? i've learnt this few months and i lapsed a bit but i want the hunger to gnaw in me as constant sweet aches. grind and bore into me. the worst would be that you forgot you were suppose to work at it hard and silently and not be led astray by the grumbling folks. always, always remember the sweetness of the aches.

mundanes: one - earphone expansion cable eaten by wheel of swirling office chair and now its head lies forever in the black deceiving gap. two - running the mild slopes for forty minutes. stoned joints jolted back into being usefully stretched. three - ten episodes of gilmore in three days. i cried when the girls ran towards each other at the front porch at the reunion.no, i cried at the phonecall before that. and i was really fond of jess having written a book. the tv folks they steal our emotions, and then, the cleanse and revived joy to return to the space outside the screen.

and, my fondness for you envelopes a continent, a world. you are unbearably wonderful, as kings and precious things should be. four weeks to our summer of love two thousand and six.

on saturday, ee jie and i went to watch a film fest film about chinese restaurants at the alliance francaise. rushing through cups of flat white and hot chocolate at the olio cafe above and lazy sauntering to balmoral plaza next door for after-film chicken rice, we talked and poked each other and laughed. the sisterhood. ah huh.

my occassional dosage to satisfy my lust and love for the metropolitan life. lotte has a new product at the isetan japanese supermarket shelf. this one is good too. it has cream filling. it's as good as the milk and honey one. wow, if you go to the website, apparently the name 'lotte' has some romantic origins: "it's derived from 'charlotte', a heroine in the Sorrows of Young Werther by Johan Wolfgang Von Goethe, a literary giant from germany". hmm. sigh, wandering up and down the aisles without you choy is lonesome. i'm looking foward to seeing you on friday. miss you plenty. three weeks cold-turkey.

hmm, i'm suppose to be doing my readings. egards. still rather lost lars.

i'm ready for a long long run this evening. for now i am going for a gilmore girls marathon. mingyao got me FOURTEEN EPISODES!
